NORTH NORTHANTS BADGER GROUP
Who We Are -
We are full members of the Badger Trust, and are
actively involved in the welfare of badgers in the north and east of Northamptonshire,
the line being formed by the A5199 to the north of Northampton and the A428 south of Northampton excluding the borough of Northampton.
What We Do
For Badgers
Collect and record data on badgers and their setts, so that we can
..Rescue and rehabilitate injured or orphaned badgers, returning them to the wild.
..Supply information and work with responsible authorities to help protect badgers and their habitat from the effects of Development.
..Encourage the use of roadside warnings where badgers are most at risk.
..Assist the Police and RSPCA where harm to badgers is suspected.
Since we began in 1994, we have returned 44 badgers back to the wild, have been involved in the installation of 3 sets of roadside warning signs, as well as 2 artificial setts and numerous badger tunnels associated with new roads and development. Sadly, we still lose between 250 and 300 badgers on our roads each year, and new Developments are a constant threat.
For People -
Respond to members of the public when badgers cause problems.
Provide information about badgers, their way of life and the threats they face - through our leaflets, by giving talks and by attending events.
Offer to our members the opportunity to learn the skills needed to help badgers. We run fieldcraft walks and badger watches the chance to see these beautiful animals in the countryside where they belong.
The work we do is immensely rewarding, but there is still much to do. We are always very glad to welcome new members, who can spare just a little of their valuable time to help in practical ways.
